Volvo a driving force behind junior rugby development

28-Jun-2012

Volvo Cars are the new driving force behind Brisbane Junior Rugby Union and Downs Rugby after further extending their support of Rugby in Queensland at the game’s grassroots.

The new level of support will assist in unearthing the next generation of Reds talent in addition to Volvo’s existing elite partnership with Queensland Rugby and the Queensland Reds.

As part of the venture, Volvo will partner all BJRU and Downs Rugby age-group representative sides from Under 13 to Under 17 level at the Queensland Junior Rugby Union State Championships.

Queensland Rugby General Manager of Game Development David Hanham said Volvo Cars’ new level of support will play an integral role in the development of junior Rugby talent across Queensland.

“Volvo Cars are a highly respected market leader in their field and their new partnership with Brisbane Juniors and Downs Rugby will have a positive impact on the continued growth of our Code in Queensland and also on the ongoing success of our talent development and participation pathways,” Mr Hanham said.

“Creating avenues to develop the best junior Rugby talent on offer is crucial to the long-term success of our Code, and importantly the Queensland Reds, so we are pleased to have Volvo Cars furthering their commitment to our game.”

Volvo Car Australia Marketing Director Greg Bosnich said it was important to have a major involvement at all levels of Queensland Rugby.

“We enjoy the opportunity to be involved in Rugby and feel our newest partnership with the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union and Downs Rugby will continue to strengthen our ties with not only the Reds but also with the grassroots Rugby community,” Mr Bosnich said.

Volvo Car Australia re-signed as an Elite Partner of Queensland Rugby and the Reds in 2011 with the partnership including sleeve branding rights.

Volvo’s commitment to grassroots Rugby also extends to naming rights for the Queensland Referees and the Queensland Schoolboys Open Championships as well as the Queensland Schoolboys Team.
